Remembering Dr. D

Dr. D., as most of his patients knew him, received his doctorate in dental medicine from the University of Mississippi in 1985 and then completed a general practice residency in the Air Force. He returned to Brookhaven in 1988 and hung his shingle out to treat his new community’s dental needs. Throughout his career, he fed his appetite for learning by attending numerous courses pertaining to all disciplines of general dentistry.
In 1976 Dr. D. married his high school sweetheart, Cathy, and they have three children – Anthony, Natalie, and Amy.
His son, Anthony, is an orthodontist in Nashville, Tennessee. He has four grandchildren who brought him great joy. Dr. Ditcharo was a longtime member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, where he served on the Parish Council, Finance Council and was active in the Knights of Columbus, where he served as Grand Knight and District Deputy and was awarded Knight of the Year and Family of the Year awards. He was also active with the church’s youth program, where he was awarded the For God and Youth and Eagle of the Cross awards. He went on several mission trips to Saltillo, Mexico to perform dental work. Dr. Ditcharo was an active member of the Brookhaven Exchange Club, where he served as mentor for the “O” Foundation and was named the Foundation’s Volunteer of the Year in 2011. He enjoyed the outdoors, riding his Harley, camping, scuba diving, and farming.
